A method to investigate numerically the existence and uniqueness of solutions of free boundary value problems is tested on the example of a tubular flow reactor. The main idea is to introduce a nonphysical parameter in the equations and then to require partial invariance under an extended stretching group. Numerical results that show the existence and uniqueness of the solution and an application to a free boundary value problem are discussed.
