The weight distributions of the ternary Melas codes and related codes and of ternary Zetterberg codes are obtained by describing them as algebraic geometry codes and studying the corresponding curves. The used methods are as in [\textit{R. Schoof} and the second author, J. Comb. Theory, Ser. A 57, No. 2, 163--186 (1991; Zbl 0729.11065)].
