The authors investigate whether the usual properties of dissipative systems are displayed by the one-dimensional, compressible Navier-Stokes equations. To this end they study bounded solutions of the one- dimensional, compressible Navier-Stokes equations. They show that if a solution is bounded (i.e. the velocity and specific volume are bounded) then it is a stationary solution, and that a stationary solution exists if and only if the pressure and body force satisfy a compatibility condition.
