The applicability of the theory to hydrodynamic problems is illustrated by the example of the suppression of convection in a rectangular cavity. The problem is a methodological one. As in the Rayleigh problem, the slip conditions are taken as the hydrodynamic boundary conditions. This makes it possible to obtain a solution in explicit form, prove the fundamental possibility of suppressing convection, and demonstrate a number of the qualitative features of other hydrodynamic problems (appearance of multiple eigenvalues, need to use multiloop regulators, etc.). The scheme is a general one suitable for solving other problems and, in particular, can be used for the numerical solution of the analogous problem of the suppression of convection under real boundary conditions.
