An elementary proof of Routh criterion based on geometric considerations involvng the net phase change of an nth-order polynomial (with real coefficients) along \(j\omega\)-positive axis, via its even and odd parts, is given. Finally the significance of sign changes in the first column of the Routh scheme is derived.
