For a pair A,B of topological semigroups, the authors consider conditions under which the family F(A,B) of all continuous bilinear maps from the cartesian product of A and B into the multiplicative semigroup of nonnegative real numbers separates points of A. There are two theorems (without proof) in this short note. The first provides equivalent conditions for the existence of a topological semigroup B for a given compact semigroup A such that F(A,B) separates points of A. The second theorem provides an equivalent condition for a compact semigroup A to have a topological semigroup B such that F(A,B) separates subsemigroups of A. Included in these conditions is the requirement that A be a torsion-free regular commutative semigroup.
