Having recast the equilibrium equations in the form of a fixed-point problem in a certain subset of continuous functions on a ball of radius R, the author uses the Leray-Schauder degree theory and various a priori bounds to prove that there exists a connected family of solutions for rotating self-gravitating compressible fluids (a simple rotating-star model). In effect, it is proved that there exists a continuum of solutions which extends from the unique nonrotating solution to figures with arbitrarily large total angular momentum; the fluid has a polytropic equation of state and has fixed mass.
