\textit{H. P. Dikshit} and \textit{P. L. Powar} [Numer. Math. 40, 71--78 (1982; Zbl 0479.65009)] and subsequently \textit{H. P. Dikshit} and \textit{S. S. Rana} [Rocky Mt. J. Math. 17, 709--718 (1987; Zbl 0658.41003)] have studied existence, uniqueness and convergence properties of interpolating discrete cubic splines. The authors study here similar properties of certain interpolating deficient discrete quartic splines.
