From the author's abstract: We analyze the restricted denominator approximation method, which is a one parameter family of functions approximating the exponential function. We give a necessary and sufficient condition for the A-stability of the functions. We provide an estimate for the stability constant in the maximum-norm when the method is applied to the one-dimensional heat equation both on finite and on infinite intervals.
