The aim of the present paper is to investigate the approximate amenability of the semigroup algebra \(\ell^1(S)\) (\(M_a(S)\), respectively) for the left cancellative semigroups (foundation semigroups, respectively) in terms of the left amenability of \(S\). Furthermore, the authors investigate the approximate amenability of \(\ell^1(S)\) of a Brandt semigroup over the group \(G\) in terms of the amenability of \(G\).
