In the paper the authors attempt to ``go beyond traditional stochastic approaches and propose a novel framework of semialgebraic gene-environment networks''. Following an overview of the state of the art of gene-environment networks that addresses models under uncertainty, the semi-algebraic description of uncertainty regions and genome-wide association studies, the authors propose a novel definition of networks that underline (and separate) genes and environmental factors. Next, clustered partitions are discussed in detail, followed by a thorough overview of uncertainty regions. Also included are approaches for network pruning.
