The Causal-State Splitting Reconstruction (CSSR) algorithm is used to analyze time-series of geophysical measurements (called the Computational Mechanics approach). The main contribution lies in the development of a heuristic approach dealing with seismic time-series. The selection of input parameters is described by an optimization problem maximizing the predictability of specific events such as the occurence of largest earthquakes.
