The article is a review of recent results concerning proper polynomial mappings \(f:\mathbb{K}^{m}\rightarrow \mathbb{K}^{n}\) of affine spaces where \(\mathbb{K=R}\) or \(\mathbb{K=C}\). The described results are concentrated on the following topics: 1. necessary and sufficient conditions for properness of \(f,\) 2. geometric properties of nonproperness set of \(f,\) 3. geometric properties of proper homogeneous and quadratic mappings.
