A relative version of the finiteness obstruction theory of C. T. C. Wall (Q846039)

This paper describes a geometric construction that allows one to reduce \textit{C. T. C. Wall}'s relative finiteness obstruction [Ann. Math. (2) 81, 56--69 (1965); Proc. roy. Soc. London, Ser. A 295, 129--139 (1966; Zbl 0152.21902)] for finitely dominated CW pairs to the non-relative version. The method uses a truncated version of the infinite mapping cylinder construction. This reduction to the non relative case allows the author to derive sum and product formulae for the relative case found in the thesis of L. Siebenmann.
