Parameters of a linear conform transformation between two dimensional coordinate systems (Helmert transformation) are estimated from coordinates, so called ``identical points'', measured in both coordinate systems. The regression model characterizing this situation is nonlinear. In the paper it is proved that this nonlinearity can be neglected in all situations occurring in practice. Valuable numerical study is also involved in the paper.
