The author transfers the well-known archimedean property for t-norms from fuzzy set theory to interval-valued fuzzy set (IVFS) theory. The archimedean property is relevant amongst others because it allows characterization of continuous t-norms on [0,1]. In the extension to IVFSs, three variants are considered: archimedean, strong archimedean and weakly archimedean.
