The paper deals with a two-phase one-dimensional free boundary problem for parabolic equations arising from a mathematical model of Bingham-like fluids with viscoelastic core. The local existence for the problem under consideration is proved by virtue of fixed point arguments based on the Leray--Schauder theorem, whereas uniqueness follows in a more general, weak formulation of the problem.
