The authors deal with the nonlinear geometric optics for gas dynamics in one space variable with background states being a shock wave and a contact discontinuity. The paper is mainly devoted to study the case of a shock wave and a contact discontinuity as background states. In addition, they study the problem of the oscillatory shock wave and contact discontinuity including the problem of leading profiles. Finally, the proof of the asymptotic expansions of the oscillation problem, which gives the nonlinear geometric optics, is presented.
