The object of this short note is to give a synthetic overview of basic concepts of compositional geometry, which are necessary to follow the different analysis presented in subsequent papers in this issue of Mathematical Geology. To put them in a proper context, and to understand how to compute and operate with them, it is convenient to introduce them with simple examples.
