Various extension of a classical result of Bochner concerning Radon--Nikodým representation for finitely additive measures are discussed in the framework of Riesz algebras. There is no mention of some important Italian contributions to this problem, as those, for example, of de Finetti, Candeloro--Martellotti, Berti--Rigo--Regazzini.
