The authors consider a number of problems occurring in electro-chemical machining when an electrode moves vertically down into an electrolyte. The relevant physical equations are formulated and, by the use of complex variable theory, it is shown that the problem is associated with the Polubarinova-Galin equations and the Hele-Shaw problems. Aim on get the special problems discussed are the following: -- stationary electrochemical shapes, self-similar solutions, wire -- shaped and wedge-shaped electrons tools. A solution algorithm is given involving a second-order Euler method. The work is extended to consider problems associated with non-stationary machinary involving electrode tools and the paper closes with suggestions for further work. The analysis is continuously illustrated with diagrams.
