The notion of projectively equivariant quantization has been introduced by the author in [Prog. Theor. Phys. Suppl. 144, 125--132, (2001; Zbl 1012.53069)]. The idea was to extend results concerning flat projective manifolds obtained by V. Ovsienko and the author to arbitrary smooth manifolds. In the middle of 2002, M. Bordemann wrote a nice paper [math.DG/0208171] where he showed that such quantizations exist on every manifold. The purpose of this short paper is to explain what the quantizations for which the notion has been introduced are and to explain the main steps in the proof of Bordemann.
