Hansen-Sengupta [cf. \textit{A. Neumaier}, Interval methods for systems of equations (1990; Zbl 0715.65030) and \textit{A. Frommer, B. Lang}, and \textit{M. Schnurr}, Computing 72, No.~3--4, 349--354 (2004; Zbl 1069.47060)] existence tests for zeros of nonlinear equations are compared. It is shown that if the first test is taken in its weak form and if in the second one inequalities are replaced by strict inequalities, then both tests succeed (or fail) simultaneously.
