The author considers the L-S category of the quaternionic Stiefel manifolds. The cohomology theory defined by the spectrum obtained from the sphere spectrum by killing off all the stable homotopy above dimension 2 is used. The second differential for the Atiyah-Hirzebruch spectral sequence for this cohomology theory is obtained, and hence the cohomology of the quaternionic Stiefel manifolds is computed. This is used to obtain the cup-length and thus a lower bound for the L-S category.
