After giving an overview of the basic concepts of semigroup theory in the context of operator splitting, the authors present the consistency analysis of different splitting schemes for unbounded semigroups. The second-order of consistency is proved for the symmetrically weighted sequential splitting and the Marchuk--Strang splitting.
