The orthogonal polynomial approximation on a triangle, proposed by \textit{M. Dubiner} [J. Sci. Comput. 6, No.~4, 345--390 (1991; Zbl 0742.76059)], is studied. Some approximation results are established in certain non-uniformly Jacobi-weigthed Sobolev spaces, which are important for spectral element methods on triangles. As an exmple, a model problem is considered.
