The influence function is simpler and better than Green's function for a generalized Stieltjes string (Q881070)

This short paper is concerned with an integral equation of the form \(-u'(x) +\int^x_0 u\,dQ = F(x)-F(0)\), \(0<x<1\), where \(Q(x)\) and \(F(x)\) are of bounded variation. The main results on the existence of solutions and their intergal representation are reported without proofs.
