New exotic containers (Q883848)

This is an excellent report describing the construction of new exotic containers in a gravitational field. The paper is a combination of new mathematical results and a clear exposition of what is known in the field. The totally novel feature is that containers considered here are not necessarily rotationally symmetric. Also, equilibria seem likely to be local minimizers of energy, in contrast with previous constructions where equilibria were unstable. This research was developed during the authors visit at the Max Planck Institute. The author is a world-famous expert in the physical and geometric construction of surfaces with prescribed mean curvature (in particular minimal and of constant mean curvature).
