The author examines the solvability of the variational inequality problem (VIP) involving pseudo-monotone mapping by using the general proximal point method. Auxiliary results on Fréchet-differentiable functions play an important role in constructing the general framework for the proximal point method. It is proven that the sequence generated by the proximal point algorithm converges to a solution of the VIP.
