The authors consider the propagation of one-dimensional waves in chemical reactions, for a two-layers system. One layer, the polymerization layer, contains a monomer and initiator molecules; in the other, containing reactants, highly exothermic reaction waves may propagate. The model is described by a reaction-diffusion system of combustion type for which a steady state analysis is given, showing the effect of heat transfer on the polymerization reaction.
