The Goeritz matrix and signature of a two bridge knot (Q888109)

Combining algebraically elegant techniques with traditional ``tedious computation'', this paper proves new relationships among the Murasugi signature, Goeritz matrix, and Conway continued fractions of 2-bridge knots. Calculation of the signature of such knots (from a string of geometrically obvious Reidemeister-Bankwitz linking numbers) is shortened a bit for examples with huge double branched cover homology. Concordance questions are also addressed and an obstruction to sliceness for multiple sums of 2-bridge knots is established.
