The authors consider a class of compactly supported windows and give a characterization of the frame property of the Gabor family induced by a function in this class. Progress is made to solve a conjecture about B-splines posed by \textit{K. Gröchenig} [J. Fourier Anal. Appl. 20, No. 4, 865--895 (2014; Zbl 1309.42045)].
