In this paper the authors study complete space-like hypersurfaces immersed in half of the de Sitter space, used in cosmology to model the so-called ``steady state space''. Some appropriate geometric constraints are taken into consideration and suitable generalized maximum principles are applied to ensure isometry to the Euclidean space. As a result, for space-like hyperplanes of the steady state space are given new interesting characterizations.
