It is proposed to replace the definition of space-time as a Lorentz manifold by that as a Riemannian manifold (so the positive definite metric giving the topology) with a direction field (for the time) so, equipped with a smooth dynamical system. The existence of the topology allows an unambiguous discussion of the Cauchy boundary.
