The paper deals with a representation of a monoid M and a lattice L by the endomorphism monoid and the lattice of subalgebras of an algebra. The representation is called algebraic. It is shown that the condition for M and L to have an algebraic representation is to have a representation of some weaker type. Using this, the authors give a characterization of singly generated monoids and algebraic lattices which have an algebraic representation.
