\textit{R. Y. Sharp} [Math. Z. 112, 340-356 (1969; Zbl 0182.061)] associates to any R-module M the Cousin complex \(C^{\bullet}(M)\). The author simplifies this construction and avoids the technical ``partially exact Cousin complex argument'' (P.E.C.C.A.) to prove that the ring R is Cohen- Macaulay if and only if the Cousin complex \(C^{\bullet}(R)\) is a resolution of R.
