The covariance of methods for obtaining conservation laws for nonlinear partial differential equations is studied [the second author, Riv. Nuovo Cim. 5, No.4, 1-122 (1982; see the review above) and \textit{A. M. Vinogradov}, J. Math. Anal. Appl. 100, 41-129 (1985; Zbl 0548.58015)]. In particular, it is shown that the second author's method is absolutely covariant, whereas in the nonlinear case Vinogradov's method is not fully covariant.
