The method of averaging functional corrections (AFC) increases (under certain conditions) the speed of convergence of an iterative method. Here it is applied to the iterative solution of linear systems. It is shown that under relatively mild additional conditions on the iteration matrix, the AFC-method converges. These sufficient conditions are compared with some others which appeared earlier in the literature [cf. \textit{V. Kh. Sirenko}, Ukr. Mat. Zh. 13, No.4, 51-66 (1961; Zbl 0104.348)] on some numerical examples.
