Let R be the group ring of an infinite cyclic group over a field. Ihara described the structure of the group SL\({}_ 2\)R\(=E_ 2R\) as a free product with amalgamation. The purpose of the article is to generalize Ihara's theorem. The field is replaced by a skew field.
