This paper is devoted to the study of so called shorted operators (i.e. generalized Schur complements) for positive semidefinite (PSD) operators in Hilbert space. Cascade sums and cascade limits of PSD operators are studied. All those objects are introduced in equivalent form as solutions of some quadratic programming problems in Hilbert space. The interrelations with infinite electrical networks are accented.
