The authors give an elementary proof that the doubly transitive groups with Abelian stabilizers are the linear groups over commutative fields. The reviewer likes to add, that a thorough discussion of the more general cases can be found in [\textit{H. Wähling}, Theorie der Fastkörper (Thales Verlag, Essen 1987; Zbl 0669.12014)].
