Singular integral equations with Cauchy type kernels are considered on a real interval. A generalization of partial range orthogonality relations of neutron transport theory is used to generate solutions without the standard methods of Riemann-Hilbert boundary value problems. The equation has been studied by \textit{N. I. Muskhelishvili} [Singular integral equations (1953; Zbl 0051.332)] and by \textit{F. D. Gakhov} [Boundary value problems (1966; Zbl 0141.080)].
