Whispering gallery waves in a neighborhood of a higher order zero of the curvature of the boundary (Q919525)

The paper discusses the behaviour of the high frequency asymptotic solution to the Dirichlet boundary value problem of the reduced wave equation with nonconstant velocity near the boundary where the effective curvature is nonnegative and when it comes closer to the isolated boundary point at which the effective curvature has a higher order zero. Away from the point it behaves like the whispering gallery wave mode. The method of their analysis is the so called parabolic equation method which reduces the problem to analyzing the boundary value problem for a Schrödinger equation with polynomial potential which is analyzed by the energy method.
