The following problem is treated: determine the points \(x_ 1,x_ 2,...,x_ n\) in the plane so as to minimize the sum of squares \[ V=\sum^{n-1}_{i=1}\sum^{n}_{j=i+1}(K-\| x_ i-x_ j\|)^ 2 \] of the deviations of the distance between pairs of them from a given constant K.
