The Boussinesq equation is reduced to a system of first order equations. By discretization of the equations corresponding to the space variables a fourth order accurate semidiscrete scheme is obtained which satisfies a conservation law. Sufficient conditions for stability and convergence of the scheme are proved and an error estimation is given. For solving the system of ordinary differential equations the Runge-Kutta method is used. Some numerical results are shown.
