The linear theory of elastostatics for nonhomogeneous and anisotropic bodies is considered. The author studies the nonhomogeneous traction problem (the boundary values of the stress vector are given) of both bounded and unbounded domains. In order to include both the cases of physical interest, of two-dimensional and three-dimensional elasticity, the problem is studied in the space \(R^ n\). Under suitable regularity assumptions, the author presents existence and uniqueness results.
