The author presents some references to mathematics that appear on the coins of Greek cities in the fifth century BC. These sources are solely pictoral, but according to the author in such obvious ways that little doubt remains. He discusses coins of the island of Melos in the Aegean sea, of Metapontion in southern Italy, of the island of Aegina, of Chalcis (one of the principal cities on the island of Euboea), and of the city of Abdera in Thrace.
