Careful investigation of the parallelization of an algorithm for the solution of the generalized symmetric eigenvalue problem on a hybrid multiprocessor (shared memory and local memories) with up to eight processors is made. The different subtasks are analyzed in detail and speedups are presented for the experimental parallel computer ACE of IBM. But the real problem of hybrid computers, namely much more than eight processors, is not addressed.
