The Lie algebra \(\mathfrak a(\infty)\) is a completion and central extension of \(\mathfrak{gl}(\infty)\). The author sketches a method to construct highest weight representations, the results are based on an approach to highest weight representations of \(\mathfrak{gl}(\infty)\) (see the preceding review Zbl 0712.17008).
