As part of the theory of orderings whose associated indifference relation is not transitive, the authors investigate continuous representability of semiorders through real-valued functions and positive thresholds. Their main result characterizes continuous representability of semiorders without extremal elements for the case of a connected topological space. Finally connections between their study and related results from the literature are discussed.
